The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Postby Colonel Angus » 08 Apr 2016, 08:45

The induction ceremony is tonight. I figured there is enough RRHOF talk every year to justify a thread devoted to the topic. Plus the Hall is in SOTSG-famous Cleveland.

This morning I saw a couple of HOF-related Rolling Stone pieces:

20 Classic Artists Still Not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

It's in annoying slideshow format, so here is the list:

Joan Baez, The Shangri-Las, Harry Nilsson, Dolly Parton, Yes, Warren Zevon, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, Motorhead, Kate Bush, The Cure, Iron Maiden, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Janet Jackson, Afrika Bambaataa, Slayer, Bon Jovi, The Smiths, and Whitney Houston.

I don't really have a problem with any of them not being enshrined. You can always make the "If ________ is in, then _______ should definitely be in" argument, but reading through that list none of those artists' exclusion struck me as travesties.

I found this list more interesting: 15 Artists Eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Next

Pearl Jam (eligible 2016), 2Pac (2016), Mary J. Blige (2017), Dr. Dre (2017), Radiohead (2017), Rage Against the Machine (2017), Dave Matthews Band (2018), Outkast (2018), Wu-Tang Clan (2018), The Notorious B.I.G. (2019), Oasis (2019), Sleater-Kinney (2019), Weezer (2019), Foo Fighters (2020), and Eminem (2021).

You know you're getting old when Pearl Jam is eligible for the RnR HOF

Timely.

The SB one is more of a mini-doc with performance in between interviews, but it's the only one I could find on Utube.

ETA: For you social media folks, expect to see a lot of these:

I feel like Radiohead and The Cars are deserving. The Eurthymics will get in for what they each did on their own vs. the actual band.

Rappers being in the Rock HoF always confused me. I'm assuming that Goose left Nina Simone off because she is closer to jazz and classical, and not that she is not a HoF caliber talent.

Its a fine line between saying nice things about Depeche Mode and loving Erasure.

Annie Lenox duh.

Dave Stewart was a big time producer in addition to being in the Eurthymics.
