The Brothers of Rock

The Brothers of Rock

Postby Clayton Bigsby » 01 Feb 2012, 19:41

In honour of Black History Month, let's celebrate those amongst us that reject the tempations of hip hop, R&B, and whatever it is that black people listen to, and instead choose to add a little colour to the world of rock. I'll try and profile one black rocker each day this month. Feel free to add your own.

Up first is Canadian rocker Danko Jones, lead singer of the band Danko Jones.

This guy rocks hard than the Kite during a Foo Fighters encore. They came (heh) onto the Canadian rock scene in the early aughts with the albums "I'm Alive and On Fire" and "Born A Lion" and have had moderate success in the US. Touring with cool bands like Nashville Pussy, The Supersuckers and Turbonegro and opening for noted whitez such as the Rolling Stones, Guns 'n' Roses, Motorhead, and ( ) Nickelback, Danko Jones at the very least has the respect of other musicians. Check them out below.

how do you plan to fill out the month after you devote a day to lenny kravitz and every guy who was ever a member of living colour?
You coin contrarian bro and say shit nonsense like this.

If you include halfies, then there's at least two more that can be added: Tom Morello and Slash.

Um... just off the top of my head:

Hendrix
Berry
James Brown
Little Richard
Stevie Wonder
All of the Jacksons
Prince
Ben Harper
Fishbone
Bad Brains
Sly Stone
TV on the Radio
D.H. Peligro

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch.

Lajon Witherspoon (from the band Sevendust)
Hootie
Clarence Clemons
Randy Jackson (the one from Idol/Journey)
Robert Cray (he gets a little bit of Classic Rock airplay)
Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy)
Daryl Jones ("current" Stones bassist)

btw, good stuff with the Danko Jones... never heard of them, checked out some of their stuff, kinda a AC/DC-meets-Green-Day sound, the album with "Full of Regret" is solid.

Two things:

1. It's Bootsy.

2. Can't ever forget about Bootsy. Funkiest human on Earth, and possibly of all-time. #TRUbusiness

1. My b. Egregious error, thanks for correcting it.

2. Also an egregious error.

Yeah, how can you not consider Prince rock? What genre would you put him in?

I can't even decide which of those I disagree with most, although Prince was the first one that came to mind for me too.
