if i started a thread dedicated to songs that famous samples are jacked from would it be enough to stand on its own or should i just keep it in the Hip Hop Thread?

Herb Alpert's "Rise" is certainly in the discussion, the theme from Together Brothers is there as well.

that one by bob james reminds me a little of bobby caldwell's "What You Won't Do for Love," sampled by Tupac in "Do for Love"

I thought all the samples in music history came from Parliament Funkadelic albums. Is that not the case?

not eeeeeeeeeeeven close!

its time i confess that my obsession for the dan kind of came out of my love for De La Soul. one my favorite songs on 3 Feet High and Rising samples the song Peg.

and then about a week ago i learned that black cow was the source for that lord tariq sample. (repeat from the Dan thread)

This thread has some gamey fucking legs.

Although it may turn into the Puffy/Dr. Dre/Will Smith appreciation thread as those bastards have been stealing...err, sampling the shit outta songs for years.

That Rakim song that sampled Bob James was the shit!

Here's a great sample from Joe Cocker:

everybodys been sampling everything for years. they just jacked higher profile songs that were already hits in their own right. i always thought the better use was to sample less well known tunes and make people appreciate something they mightve missed.

I totally agree. My beef is that these 3 went from just taking a small sample of a song and looping it to basically taking the entire song and rapping/singing new lyrics over it.

To me, that goes beyond sampling into outright thievery.

Back in the day, it seemed like 80% of all samples came from either P-Funk or James Brown.
