The Last DJ might be my favorite Petty song.

or possibly

Through ecstasy, crystal meth and glue
I found no drug compares to you
All these pills, all this weed
I dunno just what I need

If I was in NYC I would go to this bar:

https://pagesix.com/2017/11/29/bruce-springsteen-wines-down-alone-before-broadway/

It seems that The Boss’s stop by at Freds Madison Avenue atop Barneys New York in October has turned into his favorite restaurant, as a source told Page Six that Springsteen has been sitting alone at the bar and enjoying a glass of wine with his lunch around 3 p.m. most days.

"sco, please go to this bar and live shout box your experience with Bruce. You can even show him some of the posts we have about him here.

I have been to that restaurant for lunch before. I'd prefer not to go back there.

Are there creepier lyrics when you really listen to them than George Michael's 'Father Figure'?

I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mind
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
I will be the one who loves you
'Til the end of time

That's solid...ly creepy.

Along that same line a buddy of mine does a post on the book every week called Song Title Tuesday where he throws a topic out there and asks for friends to post a comment with a song that matches his criteria. Usually they're really good topics and generate a ton of hits/comments. Fun stuff. This week he posted that given the current political and entertainment climate what songs made in the past would be inappropriate today? The first one I thought of was 'Seventeen' by Winger.

What say you, SOTSG?

Obviously I've never heard of the song you referenced, but I like the idea. I'm sure we've discussed it before, but it's a good candidate for your question, IMO, and also relevant given the time of year... "Baby It's Cold Oustide." That song is straight up about date rape. Good times.

Ohhhh, good choice.

Ding-a-Ling? No, that was always terrible. Cherry Pie? Ted Nugent's career? I dunno, don't think I'm topping Seventeen.

When you're right, you're right.

Yeah, Baby It's Cold Outside is quite rapey. Let's take a gander at the lyrics:

I really can't stay (but baby, it's cold outside)
I've got to go away (but baby, it's cold outside)

This evening has been (been hoping that you'd drop in)
So very nice (i'll hold your hands, they're just like ice)

My mother will start to worry (beautiful what's your hurry?)
My father will be pacing the floor (listen to the fireplace roar)

So really I'd better scurry (beautiful please don't hurry)
But maybe just a half a drink more (put some records on while I pour)

The neighbors might think (baby, it's bad out there)
Say what's in this drink? (no cabs to be had out there)

I wish I knew how (your eyes are like starlight now)
To break this spell (i'll take your hat, your hair looks swell)

I ought to say, no, no, no sir (mind if I move in closer?)
At least I'm gonna say that I tried (what's the sense in hurtin' my pride?)

I really can't stay (oh baby don't hold out)
But baby, it's cold outside

I simply must go (but baby, it's cold outside)
The answer is no (but baby, it's cold outside)

Your welcome has been(how lucky that you dropped in)
So nice and warm (look out the window at this dawn)

My sister will be suspicious (gosh your lips look delicious)
My brother will be there at the door (waves upon the tropical shore)

My maiden aunts mind is vicious (gosh your lips are delicious)
But maybe just a cigarette more (never such a blizzard before)

I've gotta get home(but baby, you'd freeze out there)
Say lend me a coat(it's up to your knees out there)

You've really been grand (i thrill when you touch my hand)
But don't you see? (how can you do this thing to me?)

There's bound to be talk tomorrow (think of my lifelong sorrow)
At least there will be plenty implied (if you got pnuemonia and died)

I really can't stay (get over that old out)
Baby, it's cold
Baby, it's cold outside

So much rape.

I had forgotten about My Ding-a-Ling. That's a good one.

Just looked back at my buddy's original post. He mentioned "You're Sixteen, You're Beautiful, and You're Mine". The 50s/60s were a weird time, man.

Anything by 2 Live Crew wouldn't go over well today. Hot For Teacher? Yeah right.
