http://nypost.com/2017/05/05/man-sues-airline-for-seating-him-next-to-overweight-passengers/

sounds like a miserable experience, not sure what the airline can do though. not like they can refuse to sell to fat people or force them to move because they're fat. quite the predicament...

This is why I only sit next to friends on flights.

This. I'm a big fucking guy but I can fit into all the airlines seats sideways (this new 29" seat pitch might not work for me legroom-wise doe). I've deal with 150-lb manspreaders who are way worse than 260 lb dudes.

yup, worst seatmate i ever had was a tiny little man.

i avoid the shared armrest like a plague, trying to be a good seatmate and yet if someone takes the shared armrest for themselves i get pissed internally. it's what i assume women feel every day.

Cosign. I don't think I have ever put my arm on the shared armrest.

I generally believe that the middle seat should get armrest priority since that person can't really bias their body in either direction for comfort. Every now and then though you get the person with pointy elbows (tm-sotsg) who wants to rest his or her forearms on the armrest and protrudes way into your space. That's never ok.

I cannot remember the last time I was in a middle seat. But yeah, middle seat gets the armrest. If you're flying with a companion, you either offer to trade the middle seat for either the window or the aisle or you agree with said companion that you aren't talking or interacting for the duration of the flight.

I've had the middle seat twice in the past year, both times when I had to make a travel change last minute and just take one of the last seats available. I feel entitled to armrest use in those situations, but just put my elbows on them and leave plenty of room for adjacent seatmates to also place an elbow on them, but not a full forearm.

I have devoted way too much time in my life to thinking about how I want airline etiquette to work.

I can't remember, where do you stand on reclining the seat?

i am pro-reclining. i don't usually do it but i don't begrudge people the 2" of lean the seats give you now. it used to be a bigger deal when the seats actually went back a noticeable amount. Now i'm always surprised to find that my seat is in the "reclined" position when the flight attendant comes by to tell me.

I won't recline until the person in front of me does it. Its like standing up at a concert.

I usually take the back corner of the middle arm rest when I'm on the window. I need to anchor my elbow.

I'm with sco. I also do not object to the person in front of me reclining. Life's too short to get pissy at everything.

I think no one should recline, but am not too upset if someone does it, except the jack asses that just slam the seat back.

I almost always have an aisle seat. Only exception is that exit row seat on some planes that does not have a seat in front of it. That is a slice of heaven.
