There are certainly loud crickets out there, but the people that rode Obama endlessly about golfing (for example, one Donald J. Trump, private citizen) have not complained nearly as much about it.

I think it's a fairly ridiculous non-issue except the bad optics when you run on a platform of how wasteful the government is with their money and then go out and waste the government's money.

it would also be odd but maybe not out of the question for Trump to yell at Trump about that.

having a video recording saying "i will be too busy to golf" also doesn't help either

I got this kite. Yes, because no sitting president ever said anything while campaigning and didn't follow through on it upon election. Its anarchy!

Can someone explain to me like I am a 5-year old how these presidential trips (Obama's and Trump's) cost between $1-3 million EACH trip?

Maybe itemized it out for me.

A Boeing 747 costs approximately $30000 an hour to fly. Air Force 1 is estimated to cost $200000 per hour. That's it.

I mean, you could itemize the cost of the motorcade at $300 per hour per car, $56 per day in per down per secret service agent, lodging for everybody involved, the F-18 escorts for the flight down and back, some compensation to the course for shutting down for the day, etc. In Trump's case all of this is at retail and not cost.

Having seen a couple of motorcades hauling down the highway from my office, I have often wondered how many fleets of giant armored black SUVs there are. And, on a related note, how are they moved from city to city for the motorcades.

With respect to the golf courses, I have a buddy who lives in San Diego. He said that he has played at Torrey Pines at the same time as Obama. He said that it is pretty weird to be getting ready to tee off with a shitload of Secret Service staring at you.

Thanks for the reply.

Now, that is the number that I need broken down. That is a staggering figure.

Note that I am no doubting any of the numbers or calling 'fake news' on anything, I just can't get my mind to the numbers yet.

I'm sure a lot of it is spent toward super duper secret security stuff in case Gary Oldman and his commie thugs pose as reporters and try to take over the plane

This. It's impressive to see. Once a year or two back Obama flew into Boston to give a speech on a day where I had Sox tickets. I was driving eastbound on the Mass Pike, and he left Boston on the Mass Pike westbound. They shut the whole thing down. Then you'd see two motorcyle cops. Then a long stretch. Then two more cops. Then a shorter stretch. Then six cops. A couple beats. Then a huge motorcade with three identical looking SUVs with tinted windows leaving you wondering which one actually held POTUS. Then a stretch. Then a couple cop cars. Then traffic several miles back. Impressive but daunting logistics.

When I saw Eric Holder in OKC a couple years ago he had three Tahoes, six squad cars and a bunch of motorcycles. Considering that there had been confederate flag waving idiots outside his hotel the night before I can see it.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I really like Tom Cole. He's a very smart, very principled (for a politician) guy who works hard for Oklahoma. He passes for what might be a moderate Republican in Oklahoma. He's also a realist and I know he doesn't like a lot of the trends of the last decade. If I had to vote for a Republican <<spits over shoulder>> it would be for a guy like Tom Cole.

“I tell people not to get too worked up. If we do get it out of here, it’s going to the United States Senate, so don’t think it’s coming back here looking like it did when we sent it over,” Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), the vice chair of the powerful Rules Committee, told reporters. “I think people sweat these details way too much at this stage in the game.”

Cole said his message to GOP moderates—who are hesitant to back the bill due to its deep cuts to Medicaid and rollback of protections for people with pre-existing conditions—is: “If you want the pressure off, kick it over to the Senate and let those guys deal with it for a while.”
