Longtime Michigan Rep. John Conyers has told The Associated Press that he hasn’t settled any sexual harassment complaints with any staff members.

Conyers, who answered the door at his Detroit home Tuesday morning, says he knows nothing about any claims of inappropriate touching and learned of the story just hours earlier.

Referring to allegations of sexual harassment and assault being made against politicians and others, the veteran lawmaker says he’s “been looking at these things with amazement.”

BuzzFeed reports that Conyers’ office paid the woman over $27,000 to settle the complaint under a confidentiality agreement. BuzzFeed also published affidavits from former staff members who said they had witnessed Conyers touching female staffers inappropriately or requesting sexual favors.

Denying something that apparently has a paper trail is a bold choice.

wouldn't it be amazing if his office took it upon themselves to settle it without telling him he'd been accused? i would enjoy watching that unfold.

I think I saw the dude is 88? It's possible he just forgot.

There's a good amount of folks who will no doubt believe that the WaPo made this up to make Republicans look bad, FWIW.

I'm actually thinking Doug may pull this off, but that could just be the NyQuil talking.

That's the dude from Project Veritas. He's a stone-cold dipshit.

Also, the Democrats had the perfect chance to keep Moore out of Congress by sacrificing Franken and Conyers, and making sure sexual misbehavior came with real consequences. They chose not to. That's what you Democrats have become. Congratulations!

Do you believe tossing out those two would make a single person in Alabama vote differently?

I’d be fine with them being shown the door. Nancy Pelosi going on weekend news talk shows and calling Conyers an icon was really stupid and tone deaf, even for her.

A tone deaf Democrat, huh? Weird. You would think, after a year or so, you people might have learned.

Guess not. Congratulations!

Agreed, I can't put anything that malignant tumor does on actual republicans. He's a carnie with a video camera, $1000 suits, and no shame.

conyers should've retired about 15 years ago. he's got dementia, and has been known to show up to public events in his pyjamas. the cbc needs to stop protecting him and just let him retire. he barely knows what he's doing anyway. Pelosi bungling this will be the perfect excuse to jettison her upon returning to the majority tho, so that's helpful.

fwiw Nancy was pretty good at her job up until botching this but it's time for newer, younger leadership to take the helm.
