What Would Egotastic Mile Zone Do? - The Celebrities Thread

Celebrity news and discussion.

Fletch-- to your point about Travolta never being A-list, I would say that he arguably has two roles that have "made" his carrer. That's like saying that Roger Maris is a Hall of Famer because of his 1960 and 1961 seasons.

Even the mighty Wiki agrees with me:

It was not until he played Vincent Vega in Quentin Tarantino's hit Pulp Fiction (1994), for which he received an Academy Award nomination, that his career was revived. The movie shifted him back onto the A-list, and he was inundated with offers.

:D

We'll have to agree to disagree on what defines the A-list.

I was thinking more Grease and Pulp Fiction. Look Who's Talking is not really something I would put down as a resume booster.

Okay, so we're up to three movies over 30 years.

There's no magic number or good movies (or money makers) that puts someone on the A-list (example: Leo DiCaprio immediately vaulted there after Titanic). He was still on the A-list when Urban Cowboy was made, just as he was still on it the second time around with Phenomenon. Each of those movies, however, were evidence of why he fell off.

If you still don't believe people can fall off the list, I present David Cassidy, Charlie Sheen, Demi Moore, etc. They were all A-listers at one point - still think they're there?

What about The Boy in the Plastic Bubble? One of the funniest unintentionally funny movies ever, somewhere behind Slingblade and Mask.

John Travolta was huge when I was a kid. Boy in the Bubble, Carrie were his early years. Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and Uban Cowboy were HUGE movies at the time. Blockbusters. Definitely A list.

I'd argue that he returned to the list after that. Shit, wasn't he making $15M a movie at one point a couple years back?

Wild Hogs and Hairspray were both huge hits ... no comment on the quality of the films themselves, but you can't argue with the box office.

I know this is days old, but over the weekend Boogie Nights was on IFC for the 815th time (not that I'm complaining) and I thought of a much, much better example of someone that was on (ATOP!) the A-list and fell far, far from it (and remains a B- lister still):
