Star Trek

No thread for this? I know it's old... but compared to some of the shitty TV threads we have, I figured I can't be the only fan. <looking at Frank and Wampa>
I'd be suprised if this thread had gamey legs but it's a must in any TV forum.

I loved the original series and also Next Generation and I'll watch most eps of either of them if they're on.

Current news: Majel Barrett dies. She was Gene Roddenberry's wife, voiced the Enterprise computer, played Nurse Chapel on the original series and Lwaxana Troi on Next Generation.

"Space Seed" was a great episode and the prequel to Start Trek II, Wrath of Khan.
Ballz: So, I fucking got a BJ for $250 total, and wore a rubber. It sucked, I couldnt even feel it, so i jeckyled onto her tits. She was cute. Not even that far out of my league, it was a waste of $250

I think Wamps went on record somewhere that he's not a big Trek fan.

I'll be curious to see the new one, I'll probably check it out.

I've never made it down to Riverside (about 45 minutes south of me) for the TrekFest, but I hear it's pretty remarkably dorky.

It's not something I've put a great deal of thought into, but it seems to me that the harder-core you are as a Star Trek/Star Wars fan, the less likely you are to like the other one. There's some sort of nerd rivalry there, I think.

Disagree, ST:TNG is the only one I've ever watched, and it's strangely entertaining.

My college roommate was a big TNG fan, so I had to watch when he had the remote. (It was his TV too.) I never really got into it.

My dad is/was a big original ST fan. Never got into that either. The movies were OK (I saw Khan and I think the next two or three.)

I don't necessarily DISlike Star Trek, but I do dislike rabid Trekkies who think it is the end-all/be-all of science fiction and look down their noses at fans of any other show/movie/whatever.

I pretty much ignore the Trek universe.

On the other hand, the Doctor Who universe...

I like Star Trek, but I never watched it with the fervor I had for Star Wars. I've probably seen 30% of the episodes for the original series, 40% for TNG, and <1% for all the other non-movie iterations.

I liked TNG a lot actually. Probably one of my favorite shows of all time, especially when they got into the later seasons and hit their stride.

And Star Wars is better.

I love the Wrath of Khan fwiw. I saw it again recently, holds up pretty good. The old series was OK, I guess. I watched a lot of them a while back on reruns. I also liked one of the new movies, where the Vulcans come to Earth for the first time, I though it was good Sci-fi, but I never watched any of the new shows on TV.

The first two series, at times, did a very good job on social commentary. For example, Measure Of A Man from TNG. That's the one where they have the trial to debate if Data is human enough to not be given back to the lab for testing. Later series, IMO, didn't do this. I don't think Star Wars did as good a job in this area although the first two movies did a good job exploring good vs. evil.

There's actually a lot of good sf and fantasy out there, it just doesn't get the exposure that Star Trek and Star Wars do/did. You know, it was made into movies and TV shows yet.
