I'm with you guys. I've enjoyed this season. I'm sure it has helped that the Office has been pretty bad.

I don't get SOTSG's obsession with deciding the funniness of one show based on the performance of another. They are independent of each other kids.

4 years from now will you pull up a repeat of 30 Rock and chuckle more because it was made the same season that the Office sucked?

You don't understand the idea of context? I wouldn't call it an obsession, but if I watch a somewhat funny show in a block of three hilarious shows, the somewhat funny show isn't going to seem that great. Whereas if I watch that same somewhat funny show in a block of three terrible shows, it will seem funnier.

Does that not make sense to you?

Nope it doesn't. I only watch one of these shows. How funny the Office was has no bearing on my enjoyment of 30 Rock.

Also how does that work? You watch one show and form an opinion about it, then watch the next show and reform your opinion of the first based on the second? I don't get it. Oh I hated 30 Rock, but Office was horrible...well I need to feel that I enjoyed myself at some point in the night, let me decide that 30 Rock wasn't that bad and in fact was kinda funny.

It's not quite as formal as you make it sound. I don't pause and form an opinion after each show. I'm not a Nielsen family making entries in a journal. I watch all four shows one after the other. The next day I come here (or talk to co-workers) and reminisce about the previous night's TV viewing. If I remember that the Office was hilarious and the other shows paled in comparison (as was usually the case several years ago), then the Office will seem better by comparison to me. If the Office sucked but 30 Rock was strong, then that's my impression from the previous night. It's not really that complicated.

My issue is that they've had too many gimmicks this season-- specifically the live episode and the reality show episode. Don't get me wrong-- those were both well done and among the best of the season, but 30 Rock was a very tight program before and now, they just seem to be going through the motions to wrap it up next year. I think that the show jumped the shark when Matt Damon's arc ended, and is declining slowly into the pantheon of good tv shows that could have ended great.

To me, it seems like they were unprepared when Fey shat out her kid and they had to fill the season with something.

Maybe from a writing standpoint, but I would think that a live show would take a lot more work/preparation than a taped show - particularly when the entire cast is used to doing it taped. I know they use SNL's crew, so the learning curve isn't necessarily as steep for everyone.

You're crazy Nova, they've been great this year. They've also done the Queen of Jordan thing before too, and it was delicious.

Agreed that if Baldwin leaves they should immediately cancel the show, though. The show would never have been good or survived or could survive without Donaghy.

The only other Queen of Jordan episode I remember was when they were making plans to launch it. When was the other episode?

That's another plus about the seventh season: There's a finish line in sight, there are only 13 episodes to do, and, as a result, Baldwin is committed until the end. I agree that 30 Rock would be a shell of its former self without Jack.

They did one last season as well.

Tina Fey is a great writer, but on screen she's about the fourth most important actor on the show. Jack Donaghy is first, Tracy Jordan is second, then there's a big gap, and I think I'd seed Jenna above Liz.

You think? I'm kind of sick of Jenna and her storylines. I will change my mind about her when (and only when) they do a scene with her mixing a pitcher of Kool-Aid with her bare hand.

Note I said a big gap. Of the regulars (so no Dr. Spaceman) who would you put above her besides Baldwin and Morgan? Kenneth seems a little played out to me. I do like Hazel more than Jenna this season, but since she's new I wasn't putting her in the mix. Lutz is funny, but I'd give Jenna the edge in that battle.
