Yeah, that's my main issue with Sling. It can get bitchy. Still better than a $200 cable bill, though.

We have it on 2 different devices on my main tv, through my XBone and through an Amazon Firestick. The Fire Stick takes forever to start, but once it's on, it never loses its connection. The XBox is very fast but does freeze up from time to time.

So, I have the original iPhone unlimited data plan and AT&T is holding that hostage so I have to stay with UVerse. Too lazy to run the numbers on cancelling Uverse and losing that data plan or do the research on , but has anybody had that experience?

How fast of internet do you need for Sling to work?

I'm ready to switch. The $200 a month for something I rarely watch is some bullshit.

ETA: Just checked my bill detail, and I have 18mbps. Also, my fucking phones cost $200 a month. The Internet and TV is only $143. That's some bullshit.

I've looked into cutting the cord, but I get my cable/internet/home phone from the same source, Frontier (formerly Verizon FIOS). If we go internet only it costs more than the bundled package. That's why I still have a home phone. If I get rid of it my bill goes up (WTF?). So it looks like I'm stuck paying $189/month, unless satellite internet gets way better than it was 10 years ago.

Related: My wife bought Apple TV to try at home a while back. It was terribly glitchy. I ended up streaming the USF/Syracuse game through my kids' Chromebook. Much better. I can't believe that game was somehow not on one of the dozen sports networks I pay for and never watch.

The Roku is a far superior product to the Apple TV.

i hear a lot of people say their home phone service is required to keep their bill down. which can only mean that the provider is making more money selling your phone number to every Indian person on the planet than they lose by providing the bandwidth for the line. I guess if you just don't plug it in it's fine. Still...infuriating.

Its more likely that Wall Street uses triple play / quad play subs as a big KPI for cable companies. Because stocks trade at multiples, its better to offer phone service for cheaper than unbundled internet/cable in order to hit that KPI and then get 7x multiple on the number of bundled subs.

I know one of the Big 4 mobile operators sold 1.5 million extremely profitable subs this summer because the classification of those subs ended up bringing down the churn number the street watches by a half percent.

it does not make sense to me that a big ol' company like verizon or sprint would make short term profit decisions like that rather than long term sustain...lol sorry i can't

Basically I think it has what the 2 Sling packages have together, plus network TV, for $5 less per month. Seems like a solid deal.

ETA: Unlimited Cloud DVR as well. I think this is good enough to make me switch.
