"Rescue Me"

"Rescue Me"

Season premiere (Season 2) last night on FX. I TiVOed it but haven't watched it yet. EH put it on his favorite shows list; anyone else a fan?

(For those interested, Denis Leary's prior show, "The Job," just came out on DVD recently.)

Rescue Me was awesome last season, but I fear it'll go into a Boston Public style tailspin with increasingly ludicrous storylines. Season premiere was okay, but I'm not optimistic about this season.

How did I get dragged into this conversation? I haven't been around in weeks.

But, yes, Rescue Me is a very good show. The first episode of Season 2 was tough to watch because nothing good happened to any of the characters that you started to care about in Season 1. Still, I'm looking forward to this season.

This show is fun for the whole family. That Denis Leary is a hunk!

Rescue Me was good this week, and I liked how they teased Janet's comeback. The barbershop quartet plot was a bit too Seinfeld-esque, but it still worked.

I have the theme song stuck in my head...

I liked the whole cops and firefighters rivalry thing. All the ball washing CNN and FOX New did over the years got boring, this was a different viewpoint.

I must admit, I have been slighty disappointed by the beginning of this season. They are running with really bizarre plotlines, which is completely unwarranted. They had solid actors, and a good basis for storytelling under normal circumstances, so all the sensationalized crap seems desparate.

I had TiVoed the first three episodes and I watched them all in the last two nights. Pretty not bad so far.

Probie stalking the hat trick (old Fraternity code for "fat chick") is way out there, I agree EH. His cousin's widow (shit, her name escapes me right now) having the miscarriage was just weird. But everything specific to the house itself -- Franco, Laura, Sully -- in pretty much with the flow. The whole thing with the Chief and the illegitimate kid was funny as balls.

The flashbacks to the victims that he saw die over the years seems rather redundant and formulaic. I mean it doesn't take a genius to realize that firefights have seen deaths in their line of work, obviously a firefighter would be greatly affected by it. But I like it, all the stuff you learn about firefighting is fascinating, the 9/11 context is pretty good, and not overly patriotic like a lesser show would do. So far so good.

Good feature from this Sunday's paper on the guy that plays the Chief and on the show itself. (it will open a print window when you click on to it; original article is paginated espn.com style)

I really wanted to hate this show-- season 1 was okay as the girlfriend decided she would watch it.

Season 2 was one of the better seasons any TV show has had in recent history.

The season finale was really intense, and pretty fucking depressing. I have no idea where this show is going next season.
