Greatest American Hero

Greatest American Hero

Postby Tecmo Bo » 07 Jun 2005, 09:47

Anyone else remember this show? I bumped into it on Amazon when I was looking for the DVD of "Hero".
I'm not sure which is most surprising:
a) That this show ran for three season
b) That all three got put out on DVD
c) That they considered a spinoff called "Greatest American Heroine"

I'm sure a lot of people remember this show only for the theme song and how Costanza used it as his outgoing message on his answering machine:

"Believe it or not, George isn't at home.
Please leave a message at the beep.
I must be out or I'd pick up the phone.
Where could I be?
Believe it or not, I'm not home."

I could swear we've already covered this somewhere, not a knock on you Nelson, Tecmo probably just fucked up again.

Thanks Frank, I've been wondering if anyone would recognize it. Hell, I had to look it up myself. I got kind of sick of seeing A-rod and Jeter making out.
The show has been mentioned elsewhere on the board at some point, but I'm pretty sure the DVD wasn't mentioned and I couldn't find the thread where it was discussed before.

I think I remember the George Costanza song, might be on the Seinfield thread, too lazy to look though.

Of course I remember the show and it's annoying yet catchy theme song. William Katt as the bungling hero, IIRC.

There was never any closure. Did the aliens take back the suit or what? Obviously, we need a movie to address this.

Will Ferrell as The Greatest American Hero...
Yeah, we need a movie made out of this.

I once sung the theme song from this show solo when I was in middle school at the Indiana All state choir competition.

The name of the character that was the Greatest American Hero was the SAME name of the guy that shot Rea-gon (Hinkley? something like that i believe)...

coincidentally the show was cancelled after that, hahahaa

They did change the name, but it was around long enough after that to get changed back. Make up your frickin' mind script writers!!!

The main character was named Ralph Hinkley, but, when a guy with that same last name nearly assassinated President Reagan during the first season of GAH, they started referring to him as "Mr. H" on the show, then, later, as "Hanley." Then, during season 2, they just changed it back to Hinkley. Thanks, dumb network executives!

They are rebooting this with Hannah Simone, the hot...black...Indian...something or other...woman from New Girl. Sure, why not?
