yeah, but it's sort of disqualified because it's really about samurai, not cowboys.

Sorta like the Western Star Wars. Great movie that took its source material from a Kurosawa samurai flick.

The thread is on Westerns not on Cowboys. This movie is a lot of different things, including a western.

Tombstone is my favorite.

Quick and the Dead is decent. Little Leo DiCaprio was okay in it.
Bricks - given the opportunity I would rape your dead grandmother's corpse and burn down your house. No offense.

Tombstone kicks ass. Open Range was good, but I thought it was a little boring at times and didn't quite live up to my expectations.

My dad and my grandfather fucking love old John Wayne movies, so I kinda grew up on those. I don't usually go out of my way to watch them now, but there are a handful of those that I can't help but watch for a while if I come across them on TV. I've also probably watched Jeremiah Johnson about 83 times with my dad. I've always found that one to be very quotable.

That actually does raise a question...would anyone consider No Country For Old Men or There Will Be Blood to be Westerns?

i think they could both be westerns. Certainly no country for old men could be.

Hmm, you know when I put that list together I was thinking strictly gunfights, cowboys, the stereotype of Westerns. You're right on the money bringing up No Country and There Will Be Blood. I'd count them. There Will Be Blood is awesome. After I first watched it I thought, "This is great, but I don't think I could watch it again." I bought the DVD and watched it again and now it's become something I can easily watch repeatedly.
