Saw a preview for this I hadn't seen yet. I don't think I've ever been this geeked for a movie to come out. Yes, geeked. Let's get this out of the way.

There's a great chance I'll call in sick Friday to go see this. I have never done that for a movie.

I mean there are grumblings that the neo-realism in this movie is a complete departure from the original Burton/Schumacher films and the older comic books and TV shows ... but who gives a shit. It looks awesome. Watching the 10:30p show.

Do you have to see that Batman Begins movie before this one?

It's going to be creepy watching Heath :sniff:

Nah casual fans of the comic/tv show/movies can watch it standalone.

I don't think you'd have to watch the first to understand this one. Wouldn't hurt though. Either way, Batman Begins was a great movie, and you should check it out.

a mostly positive review from the washington post's steven hunter, who's a pretty decent critic. he really spilled his man juice over the job done by ledger.

The funny thing is, that's considered a negative review by Rotten Tomatoes. DK is running at about 91% positive at this point, and Hunter's review is one of the most negative. The major complaints seem to be that it is a little too dark & serious for a comic book movie, and as Hunter says, Ledger pretty much leaves everyone else in the dust (there's a good discussion of his casting back in the Upcoming Movies thread somewhere).

ETA: The criticism of Eckhardt in Hunter's review is surprising to me. Most seem to think he did a very good job.

Caught the midnight showing. I won't spoil anything, but it was so much better than Batman Begins, and I am a huge fan of that movie. I don't understand why Hunter was critical of Eckhardt, because he was pretty damn good. But Ledger was beyond perfect. One of the few movies that actually surpasses the hype and expectations.
