I used to be a huge Bond fan, but kind of slipped over the past several movies. With the previews for Skyfall looking incredible, I decided I needed to catch up on the last three that I haven't seen. That meant starting with Die Another Day. Holy shit, no wonder the Bond franchise went dormant for a while after that. Usually the theme songs are pretty good, but that Madonna title track sounded like being stuck in a bunch of electronica-inspired car alarms. The dialogue was horrible. The plot was thin. Ugh. I'm on record that Moonraker was the worst James Bond film ever, but after seeing Die Another Day I think I need to change my opinion.

Looking forward to watching Casino Royale to get that bad taste out of my mouth.

The re-boot was much needed and Craig is an excellent Bond.

Was meant to go and see Skyfall today but I slept in and then we went to the M-I-L's for steak and kidney pie.

Casino Royale is better than Quantum Of Solace, though.

Agreed that the re-boot was needed. Will weigh in on Craig once I've seen some of the movies. Most everyone tells me Casino Royale is great and Quantum of Solace is meh-to-bad.

I didn't think Pierce Brosnan was bad, but with those scripts there's not much you can do. Kind of like Natalie Portman in Attack of the Clones. She tries to sell the dialogue as Amidala and Anakin are being carted out to the execution arena, and I'll be damned if she didn't give it an excellent effort. However, the base material was so bad it was just impossible to rise above it.

The first time I saw Quantum Of Solace was on a plane (#IGoPlaces) and they cut bits out of it, Ethiad, you sons of bitches.

I don't care if Vesper Lynd never speaks. She can get it.

The played true to form. I think Casino Royale was in the top half of bond movies ever, and I'd probably put Quantum of Solace somewhere around 3rd worst. Maybe a little higher. It's definitely better than Moonraker and Die Another Day, and then maybe on par with a couple others. I don't even know who directed it, but he fucked it up badly. Wouldn't have been quite as bad if they didn't try to make it so artsy.

Just read Ebert's review of Skyfall. Really looking forward to it. There's something about the third movie for each Bond I guess. Goldfinger was Connery's best. Spy Who Loved Me was arguably Moore's best. Now everyone's jizzing over Skyfall. Maybe they just need to keep changing Bonds every three movies and release the first two directly to DVD?

Skyfall was very good. Not a typical James Bond movie, but I liked how they started tying in the past of James Bond to the future of the franchise. With the exception of that scene in the previews where you see Bond jump in a mangled moving train and start fixing his cuffs the action sequences are more "realistic" than the historical bond fare. Bardem is good. Dench is better. Probably could've been 15-20 minutes shorter, but still worth of a solid "meh-plus".

Yes. 15yo thought it was one of the best movies he's ever seen. 10yo liked it but was getting bored during some of the non-action parts. Especially in the first half there's a lot of exposition.

There were a couple times I was uneasy. There is a poorly-lit scene where Bond is going at it with some random. There's a scene where he enters a shower with a female already in there, but there's fogging on the door. Some innuendo of course, including homosexual innuendo. A couple s-words. A single f-bomb. Many red state residents would disagree with my analysis, but I think it's okay for an 11yo.

Rumors have been going around for a couple weeks now that Christoph Waltz is going to be playing Blofeld in the next James Bond movie.
