Before They Were Famous

Postby Briandong79 » 11 Apr 2006, 12:26

Not really sure if this has the legs to be a thread or not, but here goes:

I was watching "Saving Private Ryan" this weekend, and just happened to notice that Paul Giamatti randomly was one of the soldiers in the movie (as was Ted Danson, but that's another story). I love when you watch older movies and go back and there is someone who is now famous who is playing a bit role and seems completely out of place now.

Obviously, Jean Claude Van Damme appearing in the Breakin' and Cuba Gooding Jr in Coming To America were some of the classics, but what other possibilities are out there?

I am not sure if this works for kid actors, but Kirsten Dunst was in Jumanji, and "Kevin" from American Pie was that kid in Rookie of the Year.

Clooney was also a supporting character in an 80's sitcom starring Elliot Gould and set in a hospital. The name of show, ironically, was "E/R"

philip seymour hoffman had bit parts in "when a man loves a woman" (he was in rehab with meg ryan; i only know this because mrs. farva wouldn't change the channel the other night  ) and "scent of a woman" as a snotty rich preppie. no idea if he might have been in "pretty woman," "the french lieutenants woman," "kiss of the spiderwoman," or "dr. quinn, medicine woman," but hey, anything's possible.

in addition to nic cage, another one of spicoli's buds in "fast times" was played by anthony edwards of ER.

ETA that clooney also played the boss at roseanne and jackie's factory in the first season of "roseanne."

Locke was also Mitch's boss in Old School.

Quentin Tarantino once appeared on an episode of Golden Girls dressed as Elvis.

Denise Richards was on a Seinfeld episode as the daughter of the guy in charge of NBC. George got caught looking at her cleavage.

So many people who are famous now got started with bit roles on Seinfeld, off the top of my head... Grace (as in Will and), Teri Hatcher, Raymond's brother, Kathy Griffin, Coutney Cox, Rob Schneider, Janeeen Garafola, the girl from Frasier, J. Peterman, I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting...

IhateTomBrady - Tom Brady-esque swagger? Is that code for walking bow-legged from the ass reaming your boyfriend gave you the night before Dooze?
