Got him for a million or more less than Niemi. They need every cent they can save under the salary cap.

This year's NHL playoffs have led to a lot of discussion about the merits of paying a goalie a big salary. The consensus: not much. Good thing the Canucks have Bobby Lou locked up for another 42 years or so, then.

the opportunity cost of knowing how to preheat an oven is pretty puny compared to anything else

I though Niemi would have been young/cheap enough that they'd do what they could to keep him but I'm guessing that Huet's contract is rather unmovable. Ok Caps, sign the goalie who's shown he can get it done in the playoffs.

If you want to sign a young goalie to a big contract, you have to do it before he has success in the playoffs. As for Niemi, he had his moments, but he was never an indispensable franchise-goalie type. I'd say Turco is a suitable replacement.

Oh I wasn't suggesting signing him to a long-term deal, he was RFA and had arbitration. He was gonna be paid $2.7 mil next season and Turco is over a mil cheaper and really, his numbers weren't that far off from Niemi. They both had almost equal save % but Turco faced more shots cuz his D wasn't as good as Niemi's. Turco/Huet ain't too shabby.

Been to 4 games so far this season....and all but Sundays against Vancouver were good....they played like absolute dogshit, had no energy getting outhit, outhustled and outworked...only thing I dont get is Carcillo getting a penalty for some Canuck jumping on his back while he was face down on the ice and getting pummeled....well that and Kane getting a roughing penalty...seriously?

Went to game last night...had to be the worst reffing Ive seen ever..blatant holds, tripping, and the hit on Hossa tops it.

Dont want to get started on the Shanahan bullshit suspension on Shaw when Weber got a slap on the wrist for the head shot.
