Ovechkin's hit there: clean or not? I say clean.

I'll give him credit for at least dropping the gloves there, unlike a real pussy like Matt Cooke.

Which reminds me, I <3 this picture:

I guess that's why he doesn't like dropping the gloves. :D

Definitely clean, legit hip check. It was Ovechkin who dropped the gloves first anyway, he was just pissed. If it was retaliation for a dirty hit, Dubinsky wouldn't have been the guy to do it, even though he's generally not afraid of a scrum.

And yes, I think we can all agree on Matt Cooke's general level of toughness.

Goalie fights are always awesome. I have to admit I laughed when I heard he was out 4-6 weeks with a facial fracture after that. Learn how to take a punch!

And if you can't take a punch, don't start a fight with a guy taller than you.

the opportunity cost of knowing how to preheat an oven is pretty puny compared to anything else

Fighting in the NHL being looked into again. Lame. Wouldn't be surprised if this is the last year we see fighting in the league.

They'll make a big show of pretending to care, which they have to do with the death trifecta. Even if they tried to ban fighting, players would still do it. Remember when they made a big point of cracking down after the lockout?

Tru, but I feel like back then it was more about making the game a showcase of skill, whereas now the head injury issue is the driving force. And the league actually does seem pretty serious about that.

Realistically, it's going to get harder and harder for them to justify allowing fighting. Especially the ones where two goons are just sent out to fight as a sideshow at the drop of the puck. It's pretty funny to watch the pre-season games where goons that aren't good enough to be real NHL players try to give themselves a chance by dropping the mitts less than a minute into the game.

Scott Hartnell is one of my favourite players in the league.

In the clip below, Dion Phaneuf gives Hartnell a shot that Hartnell finds a little cheap. A few seconds later, Hartnell scores, and instead of celebrating, turns around and starts a fight with Phaneuf.

This was a couple of weeks after the all star game, in which he was shit talking the same Phaneuf.
