2010-11 NHL Season

Postby someguysomewhere » 29 Jul 2010, 14:56

PG assigned me to do 5 significant NHL off-season moves. I'm completely incompetent to perform this task as I only really only follow the Canucks and, to a much lesser degree, the Western Conference. I really don't have a clue what goes on in the Eastern Conference except that the Leaves are fucking retards for trading their #1 pick this year for Kessel. So, I'm just going to make some shit up.

1. The Kovalchuk kerfulffle - Seems like however this ends up he'll stay in New Jersey. Awesome news as far as I'm concerned, the Kings would've been pretty beastly if they'd gotten him. It's for more significant though for the implications for the CBA, the salary cap and future labour conflict.

2. Fire sale in Chicago. Fuck them.

3. The Yotes look like a certainty to be gone from Phoenix after next year. The guys trying to buy them only have one problem: they have no money. Please bring back the fucking Jets.

4. Nabokov fucks off to the KHL. I didn't actually think he was any good and at the game Bus Rider and I went to this year he seemed like an absolute weirdo, but they really don't have anything decent to replace him.

5. Hamhuis! Fuck yeah! That other guy! Fuck yeah! Oh shit, Salo hurt himself again. Regardless, the addition of Hamhuis + Ballard plus Malhotra and getting Raymond back at a good price leaves the Canucks looking pretty damn good for next year.

if im cooking frozen pizza in the oven, how long should i preheat it. box says preheat to 375F but for how long?

the opportunity cost of knowing how to preheat an oven is pretty puny compared to anything else

Nice. The sooner shit like this starts happening, the sooner I'll follow the league as a whole as opposed to just one team.

How could you ignore the Rangers signing Alexander Frolov? He took the Kings to the cup!* Sure it was against the computer, but offsides was most certainly not turned off.

* the virtual Conne Smythe went to Kopitar, but TRU fans know it was Frolov who carried that team.

What can any of you tell me about this Todd White guy the Rangas just traded for? Is he a hack who piled up points teeing it up for Kovalchuk on the powerplay (and had his points mysteriously drop when he Ilya went to New Jersey) or can he actually play?
Either way, I guess I'm happy we're rid of Brashear.

Don't have a clue.

I do know that the Vancouver media is bored and trying to start shit with the front office by saying they forced our radio colour commentator to retire because they wanted a guy that was a bigger homer. Bix can explain why Tommy Larscheid not being enough of a homer is funny.

He can play, but he's not a first liner. 40-50 points I'd say.

Larscheid is the worst. For 30 fucking years the team had a fucking football player doing colour for a hockey team. Awful.

double post.

So Modano signed with the Red Wings. Good signing. If you thought this was a good signing:

Nice one ^. I understand that some athletes will never hang it up until they're practically decomposing, but why do teams keep giving them a chance? Second of all, we might need to add a filter on this site that replaces "veteran leadership" with "guy who was good in 1998."

I'll take it. They're woefully understaffed on offense for the Tortorella attack, so any pieces can help.
Also, what an awful awful trade for Atlanta. Brashear is too crappy to stay on the ice long enough to beat someone up and Rissmiller is a borderline NHL 'er.
Throw in Brashear's cap hold (some over 35 rule that I can't be bothered to look up) and I can't imagine what Atlanta would possibly hope to gain with this trade. They lose talent-wise and don't save any money. It takes a lot for a Rangers fan to call out an organization, but when you're getting fleeced by an aging and delusional GM who's only employed because he lucked into a franchise goalie in the 7th round...might be time to make some changes.
