The Indians really needed the baseball equivalent of this knock out blow

I thought this was a really good read about Game 7.

There is a Shamgod post somewhere on this website that basically heralded that moment for Maddon, essentially when he'll try to get too cute and make you wonder what the fuck he is doing. He did a great job with the team though, so I will happily take him as the manager.

I think he took Hendricks out early. Dude was only at 61 pitches and going on full rest. The Lester pull was more excusable but Chapman wasn't the right guy to go to there. As has been repeated ad nauseum, it's exactly what Maddon said he wouldn't do before the game.

That being said, Francona deserves blame for leaving in Kluber way too long. Not a single strike out, even his outs were rocked in the air, I think he only had one ground out all game. He was clearly spent as well.

To defend Francona a little, the Cubs hit Miller, too, so I don't know how much it really mattered WHEN Kluber came out.

ETA: I say that as someone who was SCREAMING for Kluber to be pulled in the 3rd.

I assume with that early of a pull you'd go with Salazar, not Miller.

I think the difference is that Maddon got cute when Hendricks was rolling. He struck the guy out the pitch before it was just called a ball. Francona had no other options

If I've learned one thing today, it's not to get cute.

Funny thing is that I didn't even read that post before I wrote about Maddon getting cute.

By far the best sub-plot of this World Series is the Cardinal fan butthurt. No one does it better.

White Sox fan butthurt would be getting more attention outside Chicago too if anyone else remembered they're still in the league.
