Jike, I know they're a lil after your time, but have you heard of the Florida Marlins? (They go by Miami now)

The 1997 team was store bought and had Kevin Brown, Al Leiter, Gary Sheffield, Moises Alou, Robb Nen, Cliff Floyd, Jeff Conine, Bobby Bonilla, and Cliff Floyd, among others. The 2003 team was actually quite loaded (young Miguel Cabrera, Derrek Lee, Mike Lowell, Pudge, Conine, Juan Encarnacion, and a pitching rotation of young Beckett, Pavano, Penny, Dontrelle Willis, and AJ Burnett.

I agree. But that 1997 team was built like someone turned on Ignore Budget and Force Trades on MLB: The Show.

The 2003 team was actually stacked, but they sold off everyone within 3 seasons.

I think we're losing the point here. Buying a title doesn't make it a fluke.

I agree with you. I was literally pointing out that those Marlins teams were actually good teams with really good players, a lot of whom went on to do wonderful things with other teams when they were inevitably shipped off.

there is an abandoned subway tunnel under Cincinnati. built right before WWI, inflation made it so they couldn't finish it. they've had like 400 failed attempts to use/renovate it since. my favorite was some guy wanted to put a giant amusement/nightlife center down there. Cincinatti! Come for the poop chili, stay for the troll-raves!

eta...i just learned about that tunnel on wikipedia. i can't remember what drove me to it. it may have been sotsg, in which case this is going to be an all time stupid post, me referencing something that was posted here like i just came up with it.

True. Given the powerhouse teams they've put on the field since the fall of 2011, everyone saw the '13 title coming. Had nothing to do with getting lucky all essentially all free agents and catching lightning in a bottle.

By the way, Sox have a top five payroll this year too. Should I order the bubbly and line up the sick and poor?

The chicken and beer-acaust was so traumatic that most analysts thought it would take the team decades to recover. Then they missed the playoffs for a second straight year! My god, it's a miracle the franchise didn't disband.
