The Twins are only four or five pitchers away from maintaining this blazing-hot start. @MJ_Baumann

That's probably one or two pitchers short.

ETA:
The 2000s Twins had one of those scouting and player development heaters, too. They drafted future MVPs Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer, then traded for Rule 5 draft pick Johan Santana, who gave Minnesota the first half of a Hall of Fame career.

God love Johan and that change-up, but I don't think I'd call him a Hall of Famer.

I didn't read the article, but I interpret this to mean the first half of his career was HOF-caliber if he'd been able to keep it together.

:-k

Huh, I was going to call your reading comprehension into question but now I see it and am calling my reading comprehension, in fact, to question.

Either way it's poorly worded and Johan shoulda won 3 straight Cys. Never forgave fat Bart for that one.

Definitely poor wording. And I agree with you about the Colon Cy Young too. That was bullshit from what I remember.

I miss Johan's changeup. He was fun to watch.

Johan's changeup was the best. And then he could still get to 94 on the heater or 87 on a slider. :sniff:

FFS, he finished third that year, the idiots put Rivera second. And he had 81 more Ks and 35 less hits and 12 less earned runs in 11 more innings and <stroke>

Santana was Venezuelan Koufax. Shame he couldn't stay healthy.

jtfc, Johan was very very good but let's take it easy with the Koufax comparison

Koufax only had really six good years. Santana basically had 5. It's not THAT far fetched.
