It also keeps more teams in contention longer which, in theory, should be good for the baseball economy.

I don't think a wc spot is cause for a huge celebration. What so you can possibly play one more game? Save the celebrations for winning the div, or waiting til after you win the play in game.

What about the rare Bills fan/A's fan combo? Both teams making the playoffs in the same year would be seizure inducing.

Y'all realize that Oakland still has a shot to win the division, right? Only one back with two to go against the team directly in front of them at home.

According to what theory, you dirty socialist. The baseball economy is driven by the job-creating teams at the top, while the rest of them subsist on revenue-sharing welfare. Next thing you're going to start whining that Hank Steinbrenner "didn't build that" because Yankee Stadium was financed by cushy tax-free municipal bonds.

Oh, I'm happy for the A's, but Moneyball can't explain this. That was bizarre.

I actually have high hopes the M's might break .500 next year. Pitching staff is solid top to bottom. Olivo is gone. They'll probably DFA Figgins. Seager, Saunders, Jaso and Montero should improve at the plate next year. They're all at least mediocre (and will get a nice boost from the fences being moved in). If they could just find one productive bat for the middle of the line-up everything would look way better.

The Astros are going to drag down our RPI, though.

:(

I'm hoping for a disappointing start, followed by an early firing of Wedge by a GM who's getting worried about his job.
