I wouldn't be suprised if they changed the name to the Tampa Bay Manta Rays or something.

Silverman said that one option is to remove the "Devil" from Devil Rays after meetings with focus groups revealed a negative association with the with word "devil," the Tribune reported.

"When they liked something we did, they would refer to us as the Rays. If they were discussing a complaint or gripe, we were the Devil Rays," Silverman told the paper.

Focus groups? Ugh. How about calling themselves the "Tampa Bay Triple-A Rays?"

It took a focus group to tell this guy that there is a negative association with the word 'devil'? I can't wait to see his suggestions...the Tampa Bay Molestors? Tampa Bay Crack Addicts?

Glad to see that while other teams are working on improving their roster, Tampa Bay is working on a name change.

Listen, if I called "shit" "a potato", it would still be shit.
I'd like to see a pair of boobs that would prompt me to write home. Maybe Scarlett Johannson level quality? "Dear Mom and Dad, I saw an awesome rack today. They were perfect. Everything else is fine. Love, BD79."

Maybe Duke should take a cue from this and change their name from the "Blue Devils" to the "Blue People of Ambiguous Sexual Orientation".

I think that's great. "Mighty Ducks" was easily the biggest abomination in professional sports nomenclature.

Hey, they're named after a movie, what more did you expect?

What I found retarded was that they were occasionally referred to as The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. I don't know why. They never did that with any other team.

They were ALWAYS referred to as that. They were a ridiculous sports franchise (like all Disney-owned sports franchises,) and I think it's great that they are changing things for the better.

Two points here:

1. Disney owned the Mighty Ducks name. When Eisner sold the team, he took that name with him.

2. Eisner was the guy who came up with the stupid "Mighty Ducks of Anaheim", and loved it so much that he sued some people who make NHL products for referring to the team as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. He even wanted to change the Angels to "The Mighty Angels Of Anaheim", but MLB wouldn't let him. Everyone besides him thought this was stupid.
