@JLester34

While my efforts to eliminate pitchers from having to throw to 1B didnt pass, I'm proud of the PA & Owners for coming together on a new CBA!

I love Lester so much. Fuck you, Lucchino. Balls knows what I mean.

I'm legitimately surprised the Cubs didn't get SI Sportsmanmenpeople of the year.

LeBron got it, FWIW.

Apparently the Cubs are in love with some Japanese guy who is a 100 mph starter plus hit 40 home runs this year. So yeah, might be worth a flyer.

I've read about that guy, hope he pans out. Read a debate about would he better in the American league where he can DH on his off days or in the NL where they'd basically have a DH every fifth day.

cool story, sco

they probably wouldn't let him DH even if he was in the AL with the type of money he'd be making. He'll be hitting .150 or worse just like every other pitcher in MLB if he comes over.

I don't think anyone seriously thinks he'll be a position player or DH on his off days. But if he provides Arrieta/Zambrano level punch in the 8 or 9 slot (thanks, Joe), it's a nice bonus to have in a starting pitcher.

writing's on the wall with this sitch imo. i'd rather let him flame out somewhere else a couple years from now and lock up as many of the hitters as possible personally. cubs o/u this year is 95.5, hard to go over when it's set that high :?

Unless he struggles this year, I'll be shocked if they don't re-sign him. He's older sure but their staff isn't full of up and comers. The hitters will all likely sign below "market value" because they'll want to get out of arbitration (remember when Mike Trout signed for like 4 years and $100 million less than Miggy Cabrera? Arbitration is a bitch). Rizzo is the only one who won't be in that sitch initially and he's locked up until like 2021. It depends a hell of a lot more on the number of years versus the amount of salary. If he agrees to a 4 or 5 year deal at a higher salary, I don't think the Cubs blink.

Obviously this is all off the table if Arrieta struggles with his control this year again.

iirc people at the time thought trout was underselling himself. i wonder if the BH sitch has made any of them rethink things and made them more likely to follow in trout's footsteps as you say :-k. MT ended up costing himself by taking the safe route, and BH probably cost himself by going for the massive payday.

Could this be the tipping point where we become insufferable? Let's wait and see!

Who do yall think will play David Ross? I could see PJ-lookalike Jason Statham. No matter what, this movie will be a hit.
