This is a pretty interesting situation on a lot of fronts. How will he be received by a public that generally hates him, but loves all things American? He wants to get back down to a playing weight of 200, but how will that affect his power?

My .02: The team would be better off without him. Baseball does not need to be a rehash of the 2004 Olympic basketball team where they went for star power, instead of building a team to win. Personally, I'd rather have Scott Podsednik in leftfield than Bonds.

I dont know if Posednik draws quite as many opposing walks or helps the batter in front of him see as many fat pitches as Bonds does, but I could be wrong.

The problem wouldn't be offense though BSMB. It's fielding. Bonds gives you 3 on-bases per game, but does he give the other team 4 with his immobility?

If Bonds and A-Rod play for the US, I'm rooting for the Dominican Republic.

A-Rod is going to play for the Domincan Republic, so that plan is out.

I still don't understand why A-Rod is allowed to play for the Dominican Republic. He was born in New York.

Tim Duncan plays for the US even though he wasn't born here, and the location of his birth has their own team. And The Dream, despite being born in africa and playing for his home country in the olympics played on the US national team...

My point... I have none.... I'm just sayin...

I would bet 10 dollars that A-Rod will ground into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play against Johan Santana and the Venezuelan team in the World Baseball Challenge semifinals.
I've grown so used to you somehow, Lord I'm nobody's sugar daddy now, and I'm lo-oo-onesome, I've got the lovesick blues.
