you know PI doesn't exist for Gronk. we're talking about mere mortal WR's here.

My only issue was the lack of replay shown on the flag that was picked up. Jeez.

I thought Cotchery caught it, but the way the ball moved at the end, I knew they would let it stand as called.

As usual, I argued with a guy at the bar that the call would get overturned and was wrong. I am the mike (hi lurch) carey of arguments at the bar about referee calls.

You guys are on the trolley. NFL Films picked up an exchange between the ref and Riverboat Ron after the call.

"There was not enough confirmation ..."

RR: "That's the problem with there's not enough confirmation, he had his hand under the ball."

CB: "We couldn't overturn it because ..."

RR: "Right -- if we had called it complete it'd stay complete right?"

CB: "Yes."

Can't be pass interference if the ball is touched by a player prior to it reaching the interfered WR.

not in every case. it can be interference if the contact comes while the ball is in the air but before the ball is tipped/deflected/intercepted. if the contact downfield is before the throw it can also be flagged as defensive holding or illegal contact or whatever it is called.

yeah or if the throw is "uncatchable" it also becomes holding, 5yards and automatic 1st, I believe. So having an accurate QB is VALUE

the hold has to take place before the throw

I could swear I've seen a referee have to use a credit card or something before to figure out if the nose is past the stick. Collinsworth acted like it was the first time ever, so :beatsme:

This is a problem in college and pros, but it's annoying that any time a close touchdown is scored you can't even celebrate for like 5-10 minutes. It really is bad for the game.
