Crashed Ice

Crashed Ice

Postby firstborn » 03 Jan 2007, 13:58

So I signed up to attempt to qualify for this thing:

http://www.redbullcrashedice.ca/en/video.htm

(Watch the Quebec 2006 video, as a bonus it includes a rather funny Queb accent, or the Prague 2005 one)

Anyway, I'm not 100% sure I'm even going to go, I've lost a step or two in my old age. I realize it might be a reach but does anyone have any experience with this? Know anyone who has?

Canadians have some funny games. That kinda reminded me of a ski slolum, except with skates and on ice.

I saw the replay of this a few months ago on one of the INHD channels. This looks awesome.

Looks more fun than any of the other RedBull events they put on - like the thing where they jump off of the pier and try and make their contraption fly.

The skating is pretty cool, fast and the races don't last very long. All of the winners come from one of two categories. The guy who jumps out to the lead quickly or the guy who starts out late and then lets everyone in front of him crash and he cruises on by unscathed.

50 or 60 kph? What's the real world equivalent on that?

Looks like a blast.

I wish that came to Boston. I would totally sign up for that. Two questions:
1. Is hitting allowed?
2. Can you bring a hockey stick? I skate more comfortably that way.

I ended up missing the qualifications due to being out of town. I've seen it on TV while at the gym but try to avoid it, don't want to be sad :sniff:

I've been seeing commercials for this lately, as there's an event in Switzerland coming up. Looks cool as hell. The wipeout potential for this sport has to be higher than for any other sport.
