2017 College Football Season

Postby paje » 25 May 2017, 07:35

Is it too early for this thread? Maybe.

Wait a minute, no. Fuck that, we're less than 100 days away from kickoff weekend!

Here's Athon's Preseason Top 25. I don't know if I believe Washington as a Top 5 team again. I think they take a bit of a step back this year. Same with Penn St, I think they stumble a couple more times in 2017. Notre Dame at #20 coming off a 4-8 season, OK.

Early Heisman Odds. Barrett at 9 to 1 looks good, I guess. Give me Rosen at 18 to 1, Scarbrough at 20 to 1 and Trace McSorley at 25 to 1.

Only 13 more Saturdays without College Football.

Ole Miss is either going to be a hilarious dumpster fire, or they'll go 12-0 and win the SEC West easily for their first trip to Atlanta in a season where they can't go. I'm excited either way!

Michigan will take a step back--they're top 25 but not quite top 10.

My only hesitation with Washington would be the amount of talent they lost on defense. But who else in the Pac-12 North is going to challenge them this year? Oregon? Stanford?

Huge leap of faith in Texas. Herman is good for a win or two this year, but they're not quite top 25 material.

I think Florida takes a step back this year.

NC State will be a top 25 team by Halloween.

Not everyone can go 4-8 and still be guaranteed a pre-season ranking. Hang in there.

Nice for tOSU to be thought of that highly, but #2 seems a bit high for a team with suspect playmakers on the outside.

Give me Saquon Barkley as my longer odds. If I'm really throwing up a prayer, give me Jarrett Stidham at Auburn. Did they leave Kenny "The Thrill" Hill on there as a goof?

Don't forget, Oregon was also 4-8 and are right behind Notre Dame.

#2 might seem high for someone without a lot of weapons on the outside, but Michigan literally returns one defensive starter and are still at 10th. Seems like it's going to be a fairly wide open year.

Derrius Guice from LSU is my darkhorse Heisman pick. He actually led LSU in rushing last year over that Fournette guy.

ETA: They misspelled Guice's name and have Speight as the MSU QB. So BD I'm guessing they left Hill on there by mistake as well.

Washington will be really good this year. Their QB is good and is back for another year. USCw should be their only competition in the Pac-12

I really like Penn State. They will be Ohio State's biggest challenge in the conference, not Michigan.

I think there is no way Barrett wins the Heisman. He holds a bunch of tOSU QB records but as a fan I was more comfortable with Terrelle Pryor and Braxton Miller.

I've seen random discussions here and there about what would it take for tOSU to bench Barrett. Seems crazy to me that he is one of the favorites.

Didn't Washington lose its entire (really good) secondary?

I don't know if Kenny Trill is even the starter at TCU, but at 100/1 playing for a program with a recent history of winning/explosive offense and a built in redemption story. I could take a taste.

Yeah, UW lost Budda Baker, Kevin King, and Sidney Jones from their secondary. I knew Baker but had to look up the other two. Browning is getting Heisman love so they'll still be good on offense. Petersen is recruiting well also.

3 of 4 of the secondary were drafted, but Petersen always puts together a good defense despite being known for offense more.

Opening up with Bama will pucker your butthole man. Also, we have a starter suspended the 1st half for targeting in the Orange Bowl. Derwin James back doe.

Cheapest tickets on the secondary market going for around $450 and the stadium might not be ready.
