Man, I really enjoyed those Maryland teams of the 90s. Then came Nik Caner-Medley and John Gilchrist and pissed it all away.

I wish I had the desire to make an all-mid major team of the '00s but I don't. Someone get on that. kthxbai

Depends on your definition.

C-Ronny Turiaf, Andrew Bogut, Patrick O'Bryant
F-Adam Morrison, Jai Lewis, Antonio Gates, CDR (he was a 3, IIRC), Kawhi Leonard
G-Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, Jimmer Fredette, Gordon Hayward, Kyle Korver

the opportunity cost of knowing how to preheat an oven is pretty puny compared to anything else

If you are going Antonio Gates, you have to consider Trevor Huffman from that same team as he was more important to their success. Tough to figure out which guard would be bumped though.

Digging through the ACC record book I came up with the 70s team:

C: Ralph Sampson, Tree Rollins, Mitch Kupchak, Mike Gminski
F: David Thompson, James Worthy, Larry Nance, Buck Williams, Albert King, Al Wood, Bobby Jones
G: Phil Ford, Walter Davis, John Lucas, Jeff Lamp, Frank Johnson, Hawkeye Whitney

Yeah, that team would be pretty good as well.

three-time MAC player of the year Gary Trent from Ohio and Wally Szczerbiak should probably be on the roster somewhere.

They would be on the 90s mid-major team with Harold 'The Show' Arceneaux

You can drop Korver for Huffman if absolutely necessary. But, I did kinda forget Steph Curry (unless Davidson is "low-major").

Wed Apr 09, 2014 11:17 am Clayton Bigsby flush, you up for an ass?

Wed Apr 09, 2014 11:18 am Clayton Bigsby do an 8-team bracket of the college basketball champs from the past 30 years. seed the top 8 teams, play them out with who'll win and why

Top 16 champs from 1984 forward:
1. 1996 Kentucky
2. 1990 UNLV
3. 1984 Georgetown
4. 1992 Duke
5. 1999 Connecticut
6. 1998 Kentucky
7. 2005 North Carolina
8. 1994 Arkansas
9. 2007 Florida
10. 2001 Duke
11. 1995 UCLA
12. 1986 Louisville
13. 2009 North Carolina
14. 2004 Connecticut
15. 1997 Arizona
16. 2003 Syracuse

First Round Results
#1 Kentucky over #16 Syracuse 97-80. UK's trio of Tony Delk, Antoine Walker, and Derek Anderson is too much for Carmelo Anthony and Hakim Warrick.
#2 UNLV over #15 Arizona 114-101. Larry Johnson and Anderson Hunt lead the way over Arizona's 4 guard lineup of Mike Bibby, Miles Simon, Michael Dickerson, and Jason Terry.
#3 Georgetown over #14 UConn 73-70. Former Big East rivals square off again in a game that goes down to the wire. Patrick Ewing and Emeka Okafor reject everything near the rim early, but nobody from UConn can slow down the Hoyas' Reggie Williams. Ewing blocks a late Rashad Anderson 3 to seal the victory.
#13 UNC over #4 Duke 88-84. Tyler Hansbrough and Christian Laettner play to a draw, but Ty Lawson's quickness is too much for Bobby Hurley to handle.
#5 UConn over #12 Louisville 72-65. Rip Hamilton and Khalid El-Amin outscore the Louisville duo of Billy Thompson and Milt Wagner.
#6 Kentucky over #11 UCLA 92-83. The UK duo of Nazr Mohammed and Jamaal Magloire :beav: are too much for George Zidek and Ed O'Bannon.
#10 Duke over #7 UNC 81-80. Jay (formerly Jason) Williams hits a floater in the lane to knock off the Tar Heels.
#8 Arkansas over #9 Florida 74-60. 40 minutes of hell as Corliss Williamson and Scotty Thurman power the Hogs past the Gators.

Quarterfinals
#1 Kentucky over #8 Arkansas 100-92. Epic matchup of Walker vs Williamson goes in UK's favor with Bill Clinton in attendance. Clint McDaniel hits 5 3's in a losing effort.
#2 UNLV over #10 Duke 108-100. Jay Williams scores 40 but the Rebels counter with 35 from LJ and 27 (including 6 3's) from Anderson Hunt.
#3 Georgetown over #6 Kentucky 80-71. Ewing scores 27 and Williams 22 as both teams try to full court press the other into next week.
#13 UNC over #5 UConn 80-79. Ricky Moore's 19 footer rims out at the buzzer as the Heels get a balanced effort from Hansbrough, Wayne Ellington, and Danny Green.

Semifinals
#1 Kentucky over #13 UNC 101-96. An up and down affair but the Cats come out on top as Walker fouls out Hansbrough.
#2 UNLV over #3 Georgetown 97-95. Greg Anthony intercepts a Fred Brown pass from David Wingate and hits the breakaway layup as time expires.

Finals
#1 Kentucky over #2 UNLV 105-103. Anderson Hunt's 3 pointer at the buzzer bounces off the back iron. Jeff Sheppard's 3 pointer with 7 seconds left proved to be the winning basket.

My initial thought was 95 UCLA was the most underrated, but there's no one above them that I think was glaringly worse by any means.

I thought about them for a second then remembered Toby Bailey was a thing and got angry.

Tourney's lucky it wasn't 31 years doe. Jordan, James, and Perk might've changed this up.
