Oh.

The first comment sounded bad, the 2nd comment was Trumpian thin-skinned (who gives a fuck what people are rattling on about on Twitter), but whatever.

I thought Brent was off the whole game, if I'm being 100.

if clay is on your side you are on the wrong side. no matter what it's about.

the guy got a year suspension for a bar fight. if he doesn't do anything stupid from here on, he's fine. Brent PROBABLY meant to say it that way but it came out sounding a little bit like Stanford Dad. Brent has the same problem as Mixon, he needed to not say another stupid thing after the sexy horse incident. Anyway, i think Bacon is right, this will end up with him getting a Fox gig and he'll actually be calling better games next year so this whole thing is better for me. Also for Fox, assuming they take him, as they will have the only 2 announcers that can make a shit game entertaining (Gus & Brent).

I agree with most of that except does Fox even have a B team for college football? Because he's not replacing Gus. And I don't think he'll get fired, regardless.

IDK, i thought there was a pac-12 GOTW and a Big-12 GOTW and they were both Fox properties. i have no idea who their announcers are besides Johnson/Klatt.

Yeah, they probably do. I think they stick a lot of it on FS1 though, which I don't get.

I may be willfully ignorant here, but I don't know what Brent said that is worthy of him being fired.

generally they don't want their announcers to have opinions on controversial topics while they announce a game. I don't think he really said anything fireable other than just causing twitters to get heated. How that squares with the endless promotion of FIRST TAKE MOVING TO ESPN, i cannot answer.

Well, I guess that I also meant that I don't really see what Twitter was fired up about unless you twist up his words a bit.

He NEVER implied what Mixon did was okay. Nor did he downplay it. In fact, he called it "brutal" a couple of times, among other things. Then he said that he hopes that everything works out well for the kid.

I will admit that the language was clunky, there is no doubt about that. But, to me, this seems like a very clear case of people twisting words to fit their agenda.

Exactly. Fucking 79 and that other jackass that we are supposed to hate except when he is on our side, Clay Travis.

Brent should go. Social Media has ruined everything. He doesnt need your bullshit. Just like it was time for Andy to leave Philly. Enough was enough with the ingrate fuckfaces on the internet and sports radio in andy's case.

You can keep your Sean McDonoughs and Dave Pasch's or whatever.
PS: I will never like July 27th. It will always be the day Reggie died. I just hate this day. True Celtic fans know what I mean.

i guess. i kind of want him to leave espn anyway because i like him and it's pretty rare that i care about the game airing on SEC network.

Right.

Was what Brent said actually awful or was it something that we immediately recognized as just clunky enough that we could do the outrage dance?

He praised Mixon as a great running back (which is inarguable), not as a stellar human being.

the part where he wished somewhat fervently for mixon to have a great future is the rough part. i do think there is a lot of "we can get him on that" happening.

One of the things that really used to appeal to me about "the left" was their hope for rehabilitation and their desire to give people a second chance.

It disappoints me that principle has been compromised (or so it seems). As a society, we should be rooting for comebacks. I'm no fan of Michael Vick nor of the things that he did, but since serving his time, I've been happy to see him making positive contributions and having an impact. That used to be something that the left believed, I thought.

**I don't know if the left vs right comparison is 100% bulletproof here. More of a general idea.

yeah, i dunno if it's a political thing. i agree in principle with your idea about democrats not doing second chances anymore but i think it's everyone (r's, d's, i's, w.e.'s) and it's cultural rather than political. If you are not in the same circle on the venn diagram as me you do not get a 2nd chance.
