I'm pretty sure he never sniffs the NFL and ends up a semi-successful guy in business who pops back in occasionally to do TV or radio spots, maybe the occasional appliance warehouse or car dealer commercial. Lotta golf and coke though.

That being said, Bob McNair seems like the kind of idiot that would draft the local kid to play QB and sell jerseys, and then all bets are off.

Someone that good in college for a high profile school is at least going to get drafted. I don't think he'll be good.

Bob McNair wastes his draft picks on USCe players, tyvm. he is a proud gamecock.

He's legit 5'9" and he doesn't have a huge arm. Plus he's got the authority problems and his on-field behavior that NFL people will hate and he's got a fun drinking problem and the Colombian marching powder and I think 7th rounder at most.

You think he makes the CFL? Optimistic.

I've seen interviews with Mayfield. Seems like he's on the fast track to an ESPN job.

Not sure if you've given us the breakdown yet, but why did Stoops step away so abruptly? Was Riley all 'but I want to coach nowwwwwwwwwwww'?

The dominant thought is that Stoops, who recently turned 56 (the same age as his father when he died on the sidelines coaching football) finally felt at peace with the idea of leaving the program because Riley was the first person he'd worked with that he felt comfortable taking over. Also, his two sons are about to be seniors in high school and are D1 talents in football and probably good enough to basketball somewhere small.

I simultaneously buy this and think that he had gotten sick of the narrative that he's an enabler of violence against women. Probably the best local beat guy thought that he actually would have retired after the terrible 2014 season but Mayfield and Riley turning out so well and going to the CFP in 2015 got him to stick around to try for another natty in 2016. When that didn't work he evaluated things and decided to bounce. There's always the possibility of some weird health scare, which he denied, marital problems, which he's gone through before, or some major scandal on the horizon.

I think it's a hell of an opportunity to rejigger the staff with younger, hungrier assistants who will have new ideas. Specifically, it's time to ditch Mike Stoops and his god awful 3-4 defense.
