Survivor: Redemption Island

Postby Frank the Tank » 20 Dec 2010, 06:37

So the big twist is that if you're voted out now you're not necessarily out of the game? So we get to watch people stay out of the social side for a while and then get plopped back into a tribe full of existing relationships as awkward outcasts? And no mention of the season's casting? I hope they have some very good players that make it worth watching because this "major twist" Probst can't stop gushing about is leaving me cold.

ETA: Probst's blog from last night's finale (don't read if you haven't watched the Nicaragua finale yet). Apparently he's already aware that the reaction to redemption island is poor and is begging everyone to give it a chance. Not good when you have to defend the show's direction after arguably your worst season ever.

I read about this a while ago, and I like the idea in theory, if what I read is accurate(which is that the "winner" of Redemption Island comes back to the game at the Final 5). Gives strong players a chance and prevents weak players from making it all the way through. A player like James from China woulda really benefitted from this, and probably woulda won that season.

16 out of 18 contestants revealed.

Rumor mill has been that the other two are Boston Rob and Russell, but the rumor mill was wrong about Kimbo Slice.

Definite yay from me. It now seems they don't have any sort of immunity at all and can be voted out (to "Redemption Island") immediately.

Getting immunity AND having a chance to come back via redemption island would've been too much.

I agree with the "yay". After last season's bore-fest, I'm glad they're going a safe route.

Gets a yay for me too. I know some people think it's Russell overkill, but considering the other option is watching people like Dan and Jane, give me Russell on every season, and give him immunity every week.

Seems it was Russell behind all of those spoilers in the past two seasons:

L to the O-L.

MB and Probst are going to feel like jilted lovers after what Russ did to them.

This first episode was more entertaining than all of last season combined.

I wonder what line of work Phillip used to be in?

20+ seasons and you still have morons who want to be the leader on Days 1-3. If the hot blonde (Andrea?) wants to chop off her leg, that's just one less competitor.

The producers really hit the jackpot with this guy Philiip. Also an impressive idol find by that annoying bitch.

Phillip was obviously never required to go to Italy on a secret Federal mission or something. Francesqua.

I agree. You'd think a federal agent would understand the value of classified intel and not burning an informant. Surprising to see he's the worst Survivor secret keeper of all time.

So Francesca is going to have to run the table something like 13 straight times on redemption island to come back, right?

I've never watched Survivor before, but my roommate made me start watching this season. Wow, that Phillip guy is great. Wonder how he's getting treated for his dry mouth problem...

Maybe I missed the sarcasm in your post but the producers were heavily implying he was never a federal agent (even had "Former Federal Agent?" under his name in the job spot).

And yeah, don't have much hope in her coming back, although she was one of the most involved first boots I've seen.
