Got the 12/13 swing pick in my main league this year (save the auction league goonery). Haven't had this pick in a while. I have to go RB/WR right? The top tier QB's usually go pretty fast in this league, but I think I would be able to grab Rivers/Schaub/Romo when it comes back around which I am OK with.

Completely depends on scoring system. Is it PPR?

What about passing TDs? Are they 6 points or are they less?

my pal #1 wrote:flush: 5 breakout nfl players in fletch's fantasy fb thread

Good question, Gil. Depending on how your league scoring system works I think the following 5 players are poised to make 'the leap' in fantasy football this season (in no particular order):

1. Shonn Greene (RB, NYJ) - No longer has to share carries with Thomas Jones, and you know the J-E-T-S will still employ a run-first offensive mentality while Sanchez grows into the QB position. Greene totalled 540 yards and 2 TDs rushing last season--and that was with only 108 attempts for a 5.0 yard per attempt average. There's some concern about injuries and the added workload, and the Jets brought in Tomlinson to spell Greene, but I think Greene gets at least 300 attempts, 1000 yards, and 8 TDs since Tomlinson will no doubt sprain his vagina sometime between now and October. Greene's not an elite runner, but these are good stats for a low #1 fantasy RB.

2. Mike Wallace (WR, PIT) - With Santonio Holmes' departure someone in the Pittsburgh WR corps has to step up and fill Holmes' 79 catches, 1248 yards, and 5 TDs from last year. Wallace had a nose for the end zone last year by catching 6 TDs among his 39 receptions. Wallace also rushed for 48 yards last year, so he has some value there as well. With Limas Sweed's injury Wallace will have even more value to whomever is under center (Leftwich?) for the Steelers to begin the season, but with Rapistberger's suspension the first four weeks could be dicey for Wallace from a fantasy perspective as Pitt will look to ride Mendenhall's legs. Still, Wallace is a good #2 WR.

3. Matt Leinart (QB, ARZ) - The preseason will go a long way in determining how Leinart follows Warner's footsteps, but I'm thinking he's going to perform pretty well given the weapons at his disposal. The Cardinals have a blossoming running game in Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower so early in the season teams will be looking to stack the box and make Leinart beat them with his arm. Even with Anquan Boldin's departure the Cardinals WR cupboard is still plenty full with Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston, and an emerging Early Doucet. I think Leinart sees the signing of Derek Anderson as a warning shot from the organization and puts up a 2800 yard, 23 TD season.

4. Hakeem Nicks (WR, NYG) - Started '09 slow due to an injured foot, but accumulated 47 receptions for 790 yards (16.8 yd avg) and 6 TDs. Nicks has good hands and displayed a knack for making big plays while at UNC. If his knee injury isn't too serious then he and Mario Manningham will be Eli's primary downfield weapons this season. I don't see him climbing into the 90 reception/1200 yard range, but he should be good for 65 receptions, 900 receiving yards and 5-8 TDs as a solid #2/3 WR on your fantasy roster.

5. Ryan Mathews (RB, SD) - After leading Division I in rushing last year, Mathews is the obligatory rookie who steps into the best possible scenario for early success. With Tomlinson gone from the Chargers and an uncertain WR situation in San Diego, look for Norv Turner to give Mathews every opportunity to carry the workload. Turner has had talented backs in the past (Emmitt Smith, Frank Gore) and they've benefited nicely from working in his offenses. San Diego will try to limit Darren Sproles to 3rd down and change-of-pace duty, so look for Mathews to have a similar season to the '08 version of Matt Forte: >300 rushing attempts, ~1200 yards, and 7-10 rushing TDs. Should be one of the first 8 RBs to go off the board this year.

Go back two pages or so - this question (or a similar one) was asked recently.

Irv, 3 questions. I apologize in advance if I missed you covering any of this before.

1.) I drew the first pick in my biggest money redraft league. Is C. Johnson the consensus #1 this year, or can an argument be made for Peterson?

2.) Can you name 2 or 3 players that you think are gonna take a nose dive this year? Guys that will be in mock drafts in the 1st and 2nd round. Like LDT in '08 i think. Or Westbrook or Barber last year.

3.) Do you think Jamaal Charles will be a beast this year, or will the addition of T. Jones to that backfield really give a large hit to his value. I planto keep him this year in my one league, but will not be happy if he ends up splitting carries down the middle.

TYIA.

1. Its CJ.
2. LeSean McCoy/Any Rookie RB not named Matthews/Brandon Marshall
3. Yes, T. Jones is there for insurance. Once Charles shows them he's the next CJ, T. Jones takes a permanent backseat.

1. An argument can certainly be made for AP. Lots of them, actually. The lead-in to ESPN The Vag's Annual Lame Fantasy Issue featured one such argument. That said, Favray is not walking through those doors.* I would have entertained the AP arguments a lot more prior to then, and it is indeed ridix stupid to doubt AP's skills (assuming his fumblitis gets under control), but I think if I drew #1, I'd have to go with CJ.

2. At this time, I can not give an informed answer. Sorry. I have yet to do my massive cramming session, so I'm not up to speed with all my knowledges. At this point, all I have are platitudes. Avoid RBs over the age of 27ish. Don't spend high on QBs. Yada yada. I'd like to come back to this question later.

3. I'm sure Charles will be overvalued in no time (if he's not already), but I'm willing to take the chance that he turns beastly. Then again, people have lost a lot of money (I don't know this for a fact) betting against Tom Jones. The guy is unageable.

* Maybe

Clit, with regard to #2, what kind of league do you play in where Lesean McCoy, rookie RBs, and Brandon Marshall are being drafted in the first and second rounds?
