A. Shaving cream pie from Burnett during the interview after Thames walk off. First time I have seen it, but I guess that's a tradition for these dolts.

B. I noticed that too. Everyone is going nuts and Arod is running around after his helmet instead of piling on.

the super slo-mo (yes-mo) of the pie was money...thames is a good guy and has an interesting backstory

legend has it that the guy who catches the helmet will get the next walk off hit

and YES, the YES network is obsessed with pitch count...i think mike kay announces it after every pitch, and each pitch is brought to us by a different sponsor

I found it interesting this week that Joe Saunders got a shaving creme pie after a complete game shutout, but Joel Pinero did not. Angels are racists, I guess.

I thought that A-Rod was trying to get everybody to ignore Thames when he came to home plate. Like he was trying to play a gag. Being a douche who wants to catch the garter, errr, helmet seems more in character.

Nice work today, dickhead. They better not even entertain the idea of re-signing this loser.

I've been saying this all year, but: He was once a Top 5 closer. He's still a top 50%-tile closer. The plan should have been to trade him when teams would be willing to overpay for him. Now, he's going to be replaced by Bard after this season (if not sooner - and probably not) or whenever things go bad in 2011, and he'll be damaged goods.

And he's FA eligible in 2012, so trading him in 2011 makes him just a rental.

I wonder what he stands to make in the FA market? He's turned down long-term offers from the Sox (that "Mariano money" comment he made almost two years ago is going to haunt him for a while). I can't imagine any extension offer, either from the Sox or someone else post-trade, would come close to those numbers right now.

There are always teams like the Mets out there that are willing to overpay for a FA closer with an ERA north of 3. Come to think of it, I guess it's just the Mets. (I hated the K-Rod deal even before he beat up his girlfriend's dad)

That was a great meltdown, the ump was channeling his inner Joey Crawford/Joe West and aching for someone to get in his face. Pap obliged.

Agreed. I think the ump should get the suspension, not Papelbon. The ump was the clear instigator, as Pap politely pointed out to the media today. [/aware this makes me sound like a homer, and while I am a homer, I truly believe this]
