Apparently the Dork is trying to break into Hollywood another way.

It was interesting, and the idea seems cool. But, did I miss something? When exactly is this going to be starting to run?

File this under I don't need to be a GM, I am a producer! Its probably something he's a lot better suited to anyway. Actually making documentaries is tedious work. A friend of mine has been working on one for 7 years now.

Starting in October.

ETA: I love that Steve James (Hoop Dreams) is going to do a doc on the Iverson trial. The fact that Iverson was in prison for that before he went to Georgetown is one of the most overlooked stories in the past 20 years.

If you take away the star-fucker element you essentially have:

Yeah, he mentioned it in a podcast with somebody (Chris Connelly?) a couple months ago - and I remember thinking it sounded great. I can't remember which stories he mentioned there (the depressing Ali-Holmes bout may have been one of them), but they did grab me. Good for him and, uh, Connor.

Sounds like a cool idea, but WTF does Simmons have to with this.

Sounds like a bunch of accomplished film makers ran with interesting ideas. Simmons just sat back and talked about how awesome it is. That warrants a producer credit?

I figure he probably helped come up with some of the ideas of what would get put on there. Obviously, though, he didn't have as big an impact as you would think, what with there being no Lenny Bias story and shit...

It's my understanding that it was his idea and his initial pitch to ESPN. If he didn't get a producer credit for that, he'd be getting royally screwed.

NJ Star-Ledger interview with Simmons regarding 30 for 30

Bill did the podcast with Sepinwall, now there's this:

I was working on this show for HBO. I had a deal with HBO to develop a show, and going through this whole process just made me understand, "Oh, this is why TV sucks." It's by consensus, and you're getting terrible notes.

Trailer for Greztky 30-30. It actually looks good. I like Janet Jones' herpes too.

I think it will be good. For all the shit Simmons, and ESPN for that matter, gets on this site, some of it deservedly so, I think 30 for 30 looks really excellent. As I've said before, I can't wait to see the Iverson one most of all.

I am looking forward to this series greatly. Think alot of these will be quite interesting.

WIll also say I am pissed off that one of the stories is pretty much Reggie Miller hijacking Ewing's legacy. I will reserve judgement until this is done, but that premise alone is fucking nonsense.

I agree that it seems pretty dumb. Ewing won the series in '94, and in '98 was coming back from an injury that sidelined him most of the year. Only that one game in 1995 with the 8 points in 10 seconds. And it didn't have anything to do with Ewing.

Miller was a good player but not in Ewing's class and isn't remembered that way.
