I can see Simmons being quick to defend the author himself in an argument with a guy like Leitch, as well. For all the shit Simmons gets for being a thin-skinned douche when it comes to his own writing, the folks who worked for him all loved him and he struck me as the guy who would be more than willing to fall on the sword to defend his guys.

wait, are you guys saying simmons edited that story? i find that a little hard to believe. no small irony there given that the one thing he's always needed the most in his writing is a strong editor.
You coin contrarian bro and say shit nonsense like this.

He's the editor in chief, the buck stops there, etc, etc. I doubt he actually did any hands on editing.

Good for Jalen and Jacoby giving Bill a little shout out:

Not to the level of being self-righteous and wholly not self-aware.

I'd say Leitch is much more self-righteous than Simmons, he's one of the early SJW adopters out there. I would agree that he has more self-awareness than Bill, though.

ETA: One thing I've noticed is that Grantland people that I didn't really consider in Simmons' inner circle, like Holly Anderson and Jonah Keri, have been very "vocal" in their support of him on Twitter. I really do think the writers there appreciated what he was doing for them.

I imagine that Holly Anderson especially was getting paid in peanuts (subtle elephant joke) when she was at EDSBS and SBNation and because of Simmons can afford to do the job full-time. I would imagine that would inspire loyalty.

I did not hear this interview until now:

"Isn't it no, baas or something? That's how I read it in a boxing book. It's South African or something."

I was curious too. It looks like sotsg.com has been providing good coverage of this event. for the Dan Patrick video angus posted, simmons comes across like a typical irrational caller to a local sports talk radio show, i understand better now why espn pulled the plug. simmons's obsession with Roger Goodell has gotten really crazy. the nfl is basically printing money but the owners are going to fire RG because...1 guy got suspended too leniently and the patriots got punished. makes sense...

For the TL:DR; crowd, here is the excerpt in SPOILERZ! form...

Prime Bbcode Spoiler Show Prime Bbcode Spoiler:
and, if all goes as planned, a platform for ESPN cast-off Bill Simmons. While HBO executives are staying mum, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the network is in talks for a major multipart deal with the biggest media personality in sports (more on that later).
