I watched the bowling to see how bad it was. It was pretty bad, but had some funny moments. The analyst (and former pro bowler) hated him almost instantly which I found funny. But the best was when they showed one bowler's fiancee in the crowd who was pretty attractive and after a pause Simmons said "Nice work by Brian (I think that was his name) on that."

But if you go to Fountain Valley for Simpson and bowling, then the joke is on you.

Fountain Valley, it's no Costa Mesa, but it's slightly better than Santa Ana. That tri-city death trap is no way to spend a day off.

This is tailor made for a drinking game. Something like:

- Celtics reference requires a drink

- Patriots and/or Red Sox reference requires two drinks

- Book of Basketball or 30-for-30 shill is half-a-beer

- Finish your beer for Karate Kid or Teen Wolf

- Smoke five crack rocks if he references SOTSG

Hell, I should set up some wack Twitter account a la "CelticsChants" for this

Sorry, Dan. The guy who is horrible doing color commentary is Bill Simmons. Dude's terrible! I GUARANTEE you I can call game better than him

ESPN, call me. Bill Simmons shouldn't call another game. Ever.

What's up with liberal political commentators hating Simmons?

All things considered, I actually think he did a decent job tonight. Better than Reggie Miller. But that's not saying much.

I thought it was bad. The forced synergy and laughs made it almost unbearable.

I only watched in the first quarter. He talks very fast, and tries way too hard.

The problem with doing a 1-off gig like this is you're bound to be nervous as hell the first time you do it (as evidenced by the fast talking and nervous laughs) and that's what you get judged on... and don't try arguing that "he shouldn't be nervous because he's been on tv plenty of times" because doing live analysis of a game, especially one as fast-paced as an NBA game, is a completely different animal than being a talking head on a studio show. From the bits and pieces I caught I thought he did fine for his first time.
