Like, I get that they are apparently the go-to web outlet for labor relations issues, but it just looks petty. We get it, you have a union and think everyone else should too. If Peter Thiel hadn't killed Gawker they could shuffle it over to them and let Deadspin just cover eSports, but until Fusion/Splinter/Whatever it's called has an ounce of brand recognition it's Deadspin's beat.

Seriously though,

I don't understand how she got 3 out of 4 right. Wouldn't she have had to guess one of the options twice for that to happen? Is she an idiot, or am I an idiot?

Journalism is dead.

Good lord, people. We all know he did this shit. It hasn't been proven in court, so yes, it's "allegedly".

I have no real issue with the general complaint that we over-use the word "allegedly" when everyone in the damn world knows it's true, because we all have to cover our asses until a crime is actually prosecuted and proven in court. But she completely lost me with these two quotes:

So in a time when the question driving the national conversation is, “Why don’t people believe women?” it’s worth examining the media’s role in contributing to that, much of which comes down to habits of thought that can be seen in the overuse of this one word.

A woman who says a powerful man raped her needs to have her story couched in wiggle words because she might not have all her facts straight. The words of an anonymous military source or district attorney are treated as fact. This is what women mean when we say “believe women.” It is not a call to believe things just because we say them. It is asking to give us the same benefit of the doubt—or lack thereof—granted to large, powerful institutions run, predominantly, by men who often use that power to hold back or directly hurt women.

Is she saying that no one believes rape victims because the media uses the word "allegedly"? Is that actually the point she is trying to make in this article? As if the word is only used in relation to sexual assault/harassment, and not almost literally every single crime that has ever been reported in any medium? It's a dumb word, and your larger point that it's unnecessary and is used almost exclusively as an ass-covering mechanism is valid. But to act like it's unique to the Weinstein case specifically or rape cases in general is just clickbait-y bullshit.

It gets used more frequently in cases where it's somewhat of a he said/ she said situation, which unfortunately skews towards sexual assault/harassment cases, at least of the type covered by media. You don't see a lot of people throwing around "guy who allegedly ran over and killed 8 people in NYC" because there's a shitload of eyewitnesses, conviction or no. So I don't think it's a purposeful affront to women or anything to use allegedly, but I think it does seem to get disproportionately thrown out there in the stories covered by the media.

Seems like it's used when there's a preponderance of evidence--which I think is pretty much what you're saying here.
