and they have a year, why rush an announcement for him?

So people can find out who he is?

That's my guess as well but there's still no need to rush and force it

When I heard Carson was appearing on one of Letterman’s L.A. shows, it became Letterman’s unofficial Game 7.

Unofficial? FOH. That shit was OFFICIAL. Letterman is retiring 1-0 in Game 7s.

I spent the week devouring those L.A. shows (they were especially great, just the best he could do) and worrying Letterman might fuck up the Carson interview.

Who the hell DIDN'T spend the week worrying about that? I could barely sleep!

Every Letterman junkie always knew he’d retire on a whim; that’s exactly what happened. No hype, no warning, no manufactured drama, nothing.

This column was published in April of last year. No warning whatsoever! And the last two weeks have been anything but hype and manufactured drama, haven't they?

He’s leaving after his 33rd year. My favorite number.

So :19: .
